Carbonated drinks may look good in their bright and colourful packaging and some may even taste nice...at first, but in the long run, they can be extremely bad for your teeth and your overall health. On average 1 can of fizzy drink, can contain up to 11g of sugar! Now imagine having several cans a day, everyday...that's a lot of sugar, that will erode the enamel on the teeth and make them prone to staining. When you couple that amount of sugar, with the 'sugar free', or 'No added sugar' variety, that contain other ingredients, such as aspartame, acesulfame K and others, you are entering into 'chemical overload'. These sugar substitutes have been proven to be more detrimental to health, than consuming the actual sugar.
For example, regular consumption of fizzy, sugary drinks can lead to dependency, which has a deep rooted negative effects on the body. As the sugar and chemicals work their way into and around the system, it can cause aches and pains, stiffness, tiredness, headaches, shivers, digestive problems and more. These symptoms then become intensified, when the intake is reduced or stopped.
I cannot stress enough, the importance of consuming clean water every day. There are healthy substitutes for fizzy drinks, some of which can be made at home. from cooled herbal teas (with a touch of honey, if desired), to water with a squirt of your favorite fruit. Personally speaking, I think it best to avoid the fizzy stuff and the artificially sweetened stuff altogether. Your teeth and body will thank you for it in the end.
