As with anything new, it is important to know yourself and set realistic goals, when starting a new health regime, that's the first rule. There is no point trying to force yourself to follow a regime or program, that ultimately, you won't stick to...thereby setting yourself up for defeat. It may be more beneficial to be brutally honest with yourself at the start and say for example, "Today, I will not have any sugar." I suggested this strategy to one of my clients and her "Today", became "One month." She extended her 'pledge' each day and has now eliminated her sugar "addiction". She does 'indulge' herself occasionally, but confines them to what she calls 'sociable shoulds', e.g. birthday cake, Wedding cake and her beloved Christmas pudding. The point is, you don't need to race to the finish line, because there isn't one. Your goals and successes can be set daily, if you struggle with willpower and you shouldn't feel like you are 'cheating', if you have something that you know is contributing to your struggle. But you should know, that asking yourself 'What's the benefit of eating this?', or 'Will eating this help me out?' Is not a bad practice to get into. You will soon find, that your personal goals become more important to you, than your cravings.
